Interesting Facts Throughout the Years

Many unusual and great accomplhishments have happened throughout the 100 year history of the CDL as you can probably imagine, here are just a few I either found or remembered.

I am going to start out with something I remember when I was the California Angels owner as an original owner.  Lance McCullers was a relief pitcher that played for 18 CDL seasons, 1985 to 2002, 17 of them with the Angels.  He appeared in 1,246 games in which 1,245 of them, all but 1 was in a relief role. But, on June 20, 1989 he made his one and only start, inserted into the rotation because a starter was hurt earlier in the sim, you know how that works.  On that date he threw a No-Hitter against the White Sox!

The 1st Babe Ruth Award winners were Harmon Killebrew in the AL, in fact he won it the 1st 3 seasons.  In the NL Rico Carty won his 1st and only award.  Caude Osteen and Bill Hands won the 1st Cy Young Awards and neither won it again.  ROY were Rick Renick and Jerry Moses.  The Washington Senators (Texas Rangers) beat the LA Dodgers in the first Worlld Series, the Rangers who moved from Washington had to wait 52 years to get another title.

One of the best days at the plate in history happened on 5/26/1999, Dave Hansen (MIN).  Hansen play from 1994 to 2006, but on that date he went 8 for 9 with 8 runs batted in, making him the only player to get 8 hits in one game.

One of the greatest pitchers in CDL history was Dwight Gooden .  Gooden played from 1984 to 2003 and had 313 career victories.  On April 5, 1995 he set a record that has been thus far untouched, by striking out 21 batters in 9 innings for Toronto.  Gooden walked 1 and allowed 1 run on 4 hits. He only pitched 2 of his 20 CDL seasons in Toronto.

Willie McCovey and Harmon Killebrew were the only players to hit over 50 HR's in a season, a combined 5 times the first 3 years of the leagues existance.  No player hit over 50 HR's for the next 19 seasons!

Marcellin Laporte, not one of those names that makes you think, yeah he was a great one, but he did do something nobody else in the CDL has ever done.  Laporte currenty plays for Boston as a reserve OF.  He played for the White Sox the first 12 years of his career and on Sept. 11, 2058 his 50 game hitting streak came to an end, the longest in CDL history.

Harry Taylor played 26 seasons in the CDL for 5 different teams and he is the only member of 2 different clubs.  In 2043 and 2044 he hit over 60 HR's and had over 60 stolen bases.  He also is the only member of the 600-600 club, reaching both milestones in HR's and SB's.
