Players that we will remember that debuted in the First 50 Years

For those of you who started out in the early days some of these guys you might remember as your Franchise player or the guy you felt made the difference in making your franchise either a dynasty or a team them helped build a Championship season.  The players listed below in no particular order are the players that shaped our game.  They are considered the Babe Ruth's, the Cy Young's and the Mickey Mantle's.

Picher Steve Busby played from 1972-1988 and is the only pitcher to win 32 games in a single season and he did it twice in back to back seasons 1974-75.  His 336 wins in 16 seasons rank #5 .

When we look at unbreakable records look no further than Roger Scoles.  His 1088 career Home Runs are 120 more than any other player. In his 21 seasons from 2003-23 he played for the Tigers and Cubs his first 18 seasons.  He is the only player to hit 80 or more HR's in a season and he did that 4 times with a record 87 in 2014 with the Cubs. He also ranks 3rd in RBI's with 2,461.

Albert Pujols played from 2001-2018 and is the single season record holder in batting average (.425), OBP  (.525), Slugging % (.959) and OPS (1.476).  He also is the career leader in OPS with 1.159, Slugging % .719 and Total Bases 7,059. He is the only player other than Scoles to hit over 70 HR's in a season with 77 in 2008.  In that season he had probably the greatest single season of any player in CDL history.  Along with the 77 HR's he hit .425 with 187 RBI's and 180 runs scored and had 61 doubles as well.  Pujols is considered by many the greatest player in the history of the CDL.

Pitcher John Nelson played 26 seasons in the CDL, more than any other player.  His 838 starts and 383 victories more than any other pitcher in league history. He ranks #6 with 4525 strikeouts and 1st with 5,496 innings pitched. John only had four 20 win seasons but had 20 straight winning seasons, also a record.  He won 13 games in his last CDL season in 2032 at the age of 45.

Roberto Alomar played 17 seasons from 1989-2005 and is #1 in career batting average with .348.  Robbie hit over .320 in every one of his first 15 seasons with a high of .402 in 2000.

When you think of speed on the bases Luis Castillo comes to mind. From 1997 to 2012 Castillo stole over 100 bases in a season a record 8 times with a high of 128 in 2005.  His 1,287 steals rank 2nd on the All-Time list.

Byung-Hyun Kim is the only pitcher in CDL history to post a career ERA of under 2.00.  His 1.88 ERA in 1045 appearances is a record that will be tough to top.  From 2000 to 2017 all with Baltimore he won 101 games and saved 582, 6th on the All-Time list.

Nobody played in more CDL games than Alex Rios.  Rios played for 23 seasons for 7 different teams and appeared in 3,367 games. His 11,539 AB's rank #9 and he had over 3,000 hits.  His 2,292 runs scored rank 3rd All-Time.  He is one of only 3 players in CDL history to have over 2,000 RBI's, Runs and walks.
